Chris Gober

Senior Pastor


In December 2015, First Montgomery called Chris to be our new pastor. He was called to ministry in 2011 while on a mission trip in El Salvador, but his background had been in Information Technology.  Chris received his bachelors in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M in 1996 and is pursuing his Master of Divinity from B. H. Carroll. While at A&M he met his wife, Marci, who was studying Elementary Education. Chris and Marci married in 1996 and have 4 children: Grace (Sophomore at Texas A&M), Clay (Freshman at Texas A&M), Laura (10th), and Emma (9th). Marci currently teaches 4th grade at Keenan Elementary.

Norma Bowers

Hospitality & Benevolence


Norma serves in Hospitality and Benevolence. She is a country girl at heart.  She is a native Texan and was raised on a dairy farm.  She moved to Montgomery in 1997 and joined First Montgomery Baptist Church that same year.  She married John in 2001, and together they have 6 children and 16 grandchildren.  Norma loves cooking and serving others, and together with her team, she gets to enjoy both.  It’s not unusual to find her in the kitchen; stop by and say hello.

Courtney Haneline

Preschool Director


Courtney Haneline is a native Texan born in Dallas but has lived in the Conroe area the last 29 years. Courtney met her husband when she was only 12 years old at the local Y.M.C.A. childcare program. Courtney and Glen have two daughters, Cherish 20 and Liberty 13. Last year they were thrilled to have been blessed with their first grandchild Ellie Grace. Courtney has been in early childhood education for the last 22 years, and has been a childcare director for the last 15 years. Courtney was called by God to become our new preschool director and director for the mothers day out program. Courtney is currently working on getting our program licensed so we can offer four day a week care. Courtney has always had a heart for children and their families and says often how happy she is to be at First Montgomery. 

Kay Piland

Assistant Missions Director


Kay moved to Montgomery in 2002.  She has taught ESL at First Baptist Church Richardson and has served as an Assistant Director with United Cerebral Palsy for both Montgomery and Harris Counties.  Kay joined First Montgomery in 2016.  She is no stranger to missions; she has served on West Conroe’s Mission Committee, Greeter Ministry, and Special Needs Ministry.  She has also served on the Board for Family Promise. Kay readily admits, “Serving others in need – that is how God’s been using me.  That’s who I am.”  She has four children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Worship Pastor


Jon serves as the worship leader; he joined our staff in 2018. Jon has led praise and worship all across the nation and has been singing since the young age of three. Before he joined our staff, he was a traveling singer-songwriter. He has been blessed to do that for the past 13 years. He has a heart for worship and truly wants to see the congregation worship in spirit and in truth and know the amazing grace that God has given to each of us. Jon is married to his wife Staci of 19 years, and they have three daughters; Anna, Sadie and Chloe. He is a resident of Huntsville, Tx and enjoys movies, coffee, and sports but most importantly, hanging out with his family.

Jennifer VanHaverbeke

Children’s Director


Jennifer VanHaverbeke (Van, for short) is our Children’s Director for K- 5th grade.  She graduated from SFA with education degrees for both hearing and deaf children, early childhood through 12th grade, and has taught in the area for the past 17 years, both in the public and private sector. She is married to her amazing husband of 25 years, Andy, and they have four perfectly-imperfect children;  Reese, Gage, Hope and Maci.  Her passion and joy comes not only from teaching children and passing along the truths about our very REAL and perfect God, but also enjoying worshipful time in His creation & all things gardening!  Once the dirt is washed off, she loves to end the day cooking and reading, watching baseball or college football, or saying goodnight to the wild creatures that live around their home. She is so excited to use gloves, trowels and seeds to teach and communicate how Jesus is the true vine, and as His branches, we can live a life closer to Him!

Vince Yearwood

Senior Adult Pastor


Vince serves as Senior Adult Minister.  He was called as a preacher in Glorieta, NM at youth camp in 1969 at the age of 16. He has served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth minister, music leader and pastor. He started as a supply pastor in 1987, started a church in 1994, and has been preaching ever since. His churches served are Mt. Pleasant, Honea Baptist, and Southside Baptist. Vince became a member of First Montgomery in Oct. 2015. He married his wife Susan in 1975, and they have three grown children and five grandchildren.
