- ** We will have fun experiments throughout the year. I will have a sign up available for families to have the opportunity to "sponsor" an experiment by providing all the consumables for each student in the class. Not required, but this will help me stretch my supply fee budget. I'd appreciate any help available to me, as well as in class hands on help.

Grades 2-5
In this fun and creative class, young learners will discover the joy of sewing through age-appropriate, hands-on projects. We'll begin with basic hand stitches and gradually introduce the sewing machine in a safe, supportive environment. Students will practice fine motor skills, build confidence, and complete projects they’ll be proud to show off - like pillowcases, bookmarks, and other simple crafts. No experience needed - just a willingness to learn and a love for making things!
Supply List:
- Binder to keep handouts
Basic sewing kit items found on this list: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3KF3ROPY6OP8P?ref_=wl_share
**The course instructor will be supplying fabric for projects.
Student families can order directly from the Amazon link above (same link for both class, I've included the amazon notes below, because amazon cuts off part of the note)
The items on this list are recommended items for your basic sewing kit which is required as class supplies. Some things can be found at the quilting shop in Montgomery, "Threaded Lines" on 149 south or "Quilters Quarters" in Conroe on HWY 105. Hobby Lobby is another great source. Also, see notes on each item. If you have any questions, please reach out.
- 1 spool each of BLACK and WHITE thread (required for both classes) - Black and white are commonly needed thread colors. Feel free to also pick out a favorite color for when color doesn't matter on our project. It's always more fun to sew with colors we love!
- 1 pack assorted hand sewing needles (required for both classes) - Singer or Dritz are good brands. I would stay away from off-brands on Amazon as they tend to have burrs making them snag fabric and cause unnecessary frustration.
- 1 pack metal needle threaders - If you can find a single, that's great, but these break easily or get lost, so a 3 pack is typically perfect. However, this is a tool of convenience and not completely necessary.
- 1 seam ripper (required for both classes) - A thicker handle like this is good for beginners. Stay away from the super small ones.
- 1 embroidery hoop (required for both classes) - Any embroidery hoop that is 6 to 7 inches in diameter. Plastic or wood.
- Flexible tape measure (required for both classes) - If you can find a single, that is all you need, but it's great to have a back up.
- 1 pack quilting pins (required for both classes) - These are the better kind (in my opinion). Avoid longer ones like corsage pins. Those are super dull and only snag fabric.
- Fabric scissors (required for both classes) - Fiskars or Olfa brand scissors will be the better choice as far as fabric-only scissors.
- Triangle tailor's chalk (required for Intro to Sewing only) - Avoid stick chalk like chalkboard chalk. They are not skinny or "sharp" enough. Also, NOT NEEDED FOR ELEMENTARY SEWING
- 1 6" x 24" non-slip quilting ruler (required for Intro to Sewing only) - This is my favorite ruler, as it has grid lines for 1/2 inch in addition to 1 inch. I do feel 1/2 inch markings are very necessary for accuracy. Also, NOT NEEDED FOR ELEMENTARY SEWING
- 45mm Rotary cutter (required for Intro to Sewing only) - If your student is LEFT-HANDED, you will want to actively search for a 45mm rotary cutter for lefties. Also, NOT NEEDED FOR ELEMENTARY SEWING.
- Cutting mat - This mat has 1/2 inch grid lines or dots. This is not needed in class, as I will provide cutting stations. Useful for working at home. Also, NOT NEEDED FOR ELEMENTARY SEWING.
- Sewing machine recommendation #1 (Brother) - I have enough sewing machines for IN CLASS USE. I might have one or two available for students to borrow at home, but that is not a guarantee. If you are able and want to purchase a machine, this is the sewing machine used in class.
- Sewing machine recommendation #2 (Singer) - This machine is a good entry-level WORKHORSE. It will handle more than the beginner Brother machines that I have for class, but also operates in the same way our class machines work so students can be taught in the same manner.

This class is going to be fun, messy, and creative! Below you will find a general recommendation of supplies that we will use consistently throughout the year. Do not stress over the brand, size, or amount. Use what you already have on hand, or what you are getting for other classes. I will also have extra supplies available in class.
Additionally, I will send notes home periodically asking you to contribute household supplies that you may have on hand—toilet paper rolls, produce bags, etc. Again--DON’T STRESS! I am all about working with what you’ve got and will encourage your kids to be creative with items that can be reused or recycled.
Finally, you will see optional items to have on hand. We will be outside utilizing the class garden quite a bit, so you may want to send your kids with a hat or sunscreen that they can apply themselves. Gardening gloves aren’t necessary, but I know some kids prefer to use them.
Recommended Supplies:
Crayons
Colored pencils
Markers
Pens
Pencils
Construction paper
Glue
Scissors
Gardening gloves (optional)
Sunscreen (optional)
